Title: RISE Up! Ordinary Kids with Extraordinary Stories

Rise Up: Ordinary Kids with Extraordinary Stories by Amanda Li

Author: Amanda Li

Illustrated by: Amy Blackwell

Recommended Age: 9+

What this book is about: 29 amazing children tell 29 superbly different stories on how they have conquered their dreams!! Each story is true and unbelievable, inspiring me to be someone every day! These life stories are about Mountain climbing, surviving, environment conservation, becoming change-agents, and doing something out-of -the box just by children between 11-16 years old! Imagine, that! After each story, there is a column of interesting facts and tips on how to do that adventure! The children in this story are from different parts of the world which was also very fascinating for me. A story that I would like to bring to your attention is'The Shocking Story of Bethany Hamilton, USA'. I particularly liked this story because Bethany did not give up on her dreams. Even though, a huge tiger shark had bitten her left arm right from the stump, she still recovered in a month and got back to surfing! She is a true role model for me as she teaches me that even if I fail, I need to jump back up and Try and Try until I succeed!

Note for MOMMIES: This book is a must-read for children and their mommies!! It helps mummas find their child's true strength and motivate them to achieve their goals! An excellent bed-time story, promise me to read 1 page to your child every day from this book.

Author-David walliams

What the book is about-The book is about a 12 year old boy who has everything, well not everything there’s one thing he want’s:a friend. Will he ever get  what he want’s????

His dad invented the tissue paper roll because of which he was always bullied in class with funny names like- Bum Boy, Bog Roll, Bottom Billionaire, Bum-Wipe Heir, Master Plop-Paper etc.  This made him feel embarrassed and insulted as he was in a school which had many princes, so he told his dad to shift him to a local school.  Jo Spud doesn’t like being rich and runs away from his reality, but eventually has to come to terms with it. What will happen? Will he have all the money or will get a true friend at the end? Read the book to find out!

It was a mix of emotions for me— I laughed when I heard of the funny inventions that his father made, but also felt sad when he ran away or felt sorry for himself. I took the book and finished it in 3 hours solid!!!

A note for mommies- This little boy find a girlfriend in the book, so BEWARE! The book has plenty of new words so if you want your kids to learn new words, this book is IT!! Also there are some really funny invented words like Bumjumping etc which will make you laugh!

The Ramayana for children

Recommended age- 7+

This book is SERIOUS, FRIGHTFUL, CAPTIVATING!

The Ramayana for children is a book about the victory of good over evil. The author of this book expressed every tiny detail in such a way that I was so engrossed in the book, that I couldn't take off my nose and my eyes from the book till it was finished. Every child should read this book to know about Mythology.

Note for Mommies- Don't let the kids go out too far otherwise they will get scared and imagine Raavan!

The BFG by Roald Dahl

The BFG
Recommended for 6.5+ years

I love this book because... it is HUMOROUS, ENTERTAINING and SWEET

The BFG is a good read because it takes you the world of giants. Sophie the protagonist of the story gets robbed by a giant called the BFG. They become great friends and catch all the bad giants and take them to the queen and buries them in a pit. The BFG is the dream catching giant, he actually catches dreams and gives everyone dreams at night!! Whatever dreams he gives come true! It is a beautiful story about a lovely friendship between Sophie and the BFG. The language is funny and heart-warming. The way the Big speaks made me laugh and also cry sometimes. All the funny names of the giants are difficult to pronounce, they are like tongue twisters! One of the dialogues from the book that I really liked is "Meanings is not important, said the BFG. I cannot be right all the time. Quite often I is left instead of right".
This books made me Roald Dahl's biggest fan and I just love his imagination and his way of seeing different worlds. It made me realise that giants can also exist with us, we human beings are not the only ones in this universe! I took only 1.5 days to finish this book as I just couldn't put it down!!

New words I learnt- Rotten, Phenomenal, Distressed, Snoozling, Pierced

Note to Mommies- Don't make the children miss out on the Roald Dahl series! Buy the entire collection. Mommies beware, your child may forget to each breakfast, lunch or dinner while reading and may eventually become the giant's breakfast!!! so please keep feeding your child while he/she is reading!!

Usborne Illustrated Classics for Children

Recommended for 6+ years

I love this book because... it is EMOTIONAL, SOFT & TOUCHING

This book is a great book for early readers. It contains the most beautiful and classic stories that each child must read before they turn 7 like The railway children, The wizard of OZ, Heidi and Black Beauty. These abridged stories spark your imagination and make you feel warm within. My favourite story from this book was Heidi. Heidi is about a very sweet and obedient girl with a heart of gold. There are 8 stories in the book with a few chapters each. This book is a stepping stone to read bigger and thicker books. It is an extremely special book to me as my nani had gotten it for me and was my first BIG book that I ever read when I was 6. This books ignited the love of reading in me! Each story touched my heart and made me dream bigger and bigger!!

New words I learnt- Disappeared, Embarrassing, Dreadful, Collapsed

Note for mothers- This is a great book to introduce Children's literature and help your child read fluently. Each story is about something new.

The 39-Storey Treehouse by Andy griffins & Terry Denton

Recommended for 6.5 + years

Genre- Fantasy

I love the book because......it's IMAGINATIVE, AMAZING & I feel like RICHIE-RICH

This book is about Andy & Terry who live in a 39-storey grand, magnificent and the coolest treehouse. The treehouse actually has a baby dinosaur petting zoo, the scariest rollercoaster, an active volcano for toasting marshmallows, and a believe it or not museum. But one day, they meet a professor- professor Stupido who live song he moon and he has the power of un-inventing everything!Imagine that! So they ask Professor Stupido to un-invent all the problems from the world, the entire population and everything around them even the entire solar system, except themselves. The professor starts uninviting everything and soon it's all a blank!! Andy keeps a spooncil (spoon and a pencil) hidden in his nose and they use that to draw back the whole world just the way they like it!!! Can you imagine if you had the power to make your world just they way you want it to be. How would you draw your world?
I like this book because Andy and Terry save the whole world and un-invent professor Stupido so they have all the happy things back in the world. I like the fun pictures and the imagination of the author, it really gives me a picture about the world I want in my mind. The author uses lots of imagery and vivid words to paint a picture in the young readers minds. The illustrator Terry Denton is superb with his drawings and creativity.

New words I learnt- convey, distract, analysed, awful

Note for mothers- Your child will be imagining a humungous treehouse with active volcanoes, disco light up dance floors, a high-tech office with laser-erasers, jet-propelled swivel chairs and many more fun things so don't expect them to stay in their ordinary room with ordinary desks and chairs!! Get ready for their fun demands and wishes!!

The other books in this series-
The 13- Storey Treehouse
The 26-Storey Treehouse
The 52-Storey Treehouse
The 65- Storey Treehouse
The 78-Storey Treehouse
The 91- Storey Treehouse
